Navajo Churro Sheep

14,469 / Pair Get Latest Price

The Navajo-Churro breed rams can have two, four, six, or more horns. This is because they possess the polycerate gene, which is also found in old heritage breeds like the Jacob Sheep. They also have the ability to have fused horns. Ewes also can have horns. The color can be black, white, or striped. The growth of ram horns is slow. A full rack takes at least four to five years to grow out. A ewe's horns can also grow large, but not to the extent of the rams. The horns often curl around to the front, and should be away, and not close to the face. The horn quality is essential to getting good genetics in a flock; bad horns in the sire will continue down through his offspring. Horns can break, and as they are living at the base, they will bleed.

Irish Goat

Despite its name, the Irish goat is not native to the country of Ireland. Instead, it was brought over to be domesticated and kept for its skin, milk and meat. Over time, more and more Irish goats have been released into captivity either after escaping their owners or being deliberately set free. This is why a lot of feral Irish goats can be seen in the mountainous regions of Ireland. The goat's feral counterparts have thrived in the wild because they are nimble and can manage sharp cliffs easily.
Although the domesticated and the feral versions of the breed have retained their similarities, the feral goats have shaggier hair and larger horns. Due to their long shaggy coats, these goats are comfortable with the cold weather, and can survive on grazing lands and wild shrubbery.

Icelandic Goat

A rare and isolated goat breed of Nordic origin, the Icelandic Goat is dates back to the Settlement of Iceland more than 1, 100 years ago. Many believe that the goats came with the settlers from Norway at 874 A.D. Morever, it is believed that the goats were never imported ever since it came. However, there were historical records from 1703 onwards that there were several places in Iceland where it is being kept since.
Despite this, their numbers decreased greatly. The earliest record in 1703 numbered at 818. The highest was in 1930 where the goats numbered at 2, 983. In 1960, it recorded less than 100 heads. There were efforts to conserve the goats. The Farmers' Association of Iceland made efforts to make the Icelandic Goats more important commercially by marketing its goat meat and skins. The Icelandic Goat also produces an excellent undercoat of cashmere.
In conserving the Icelandic goat, farmers need to take part in the local production of its goat milk products, like cheese. The Icelandic goat has a unique type of milk and meat. In 1991, there were experimental production of goat cheese from Icelandic goat and it yielded promising results. There can be a market for goat milk products in Iceland.
The Iceland goats are a small breed where the females weigh around 35 - 50 kg and the males around 60 - 75 kg. Both males and females are commonly horned. Like many other Icelandic breeds of Nordic origin, the Icelandic goats also come with a range of colors. Around 20% of the goats are white and around 80% have mainly piebald, badgerface and grey patterns.

Bilberry Goat

A wild breed of goat which was said to live on Bilberry Rock in Waterford City located in the south of the Republic of Ireland for several hundreds of years. The Bilberry are large goats with long and shaggy blonde coats and large horns. The males weigh around 50-75kg while the females weigh around 35-60kg. Their horns can be as long as 49 inches for the males which make their horns the longest among the other goat breeds. Most nannies give birth to one or two and start to breed as early as a year old. The kids follow their mother until they are six weeks old and usually live up to 8 years old.

Weight : Male 50-75kg/ Female 35-60kg.
Unique to other goat breeds which can be found in Ireland or Great Britain, this breed was said to be related to other breeds of goats like Pashmina, Maltese or Cashmere. There is only one herd of this breed. People from Bilberry believe that the Bilberry goat was brought in by Huguenots from France over 300 years ago. This breed is actually close to extinction. In the year 2000, it only numbered 7 and in 2005, there were only 21. There were local volunteers who set up a charitable institution in 2000 called The Bilberry Goat Heritage Trust to help protect these goats from extinction.
The Bilberry used to graze in a 14-acre land that used to be commonage. It was sold to a developer that will turn it into a residential area. This action would make the breed extinct and there were several appeals made publicly to protect the breeds from extinction. The Zoning authorities reduced the goats area to 12.5 acres instead of the original 14 acres. The Irish Wildlife Trust is aggressively building the campaign to protect the Bilberry because under the Wildlife Act 2000, the Bilberry is not actually a protected species and Bilberry Rock is not a Natural Heritage Area. In 2008, the herd numbers at 42 and is led by a nanny.

Old Irish Goat

Weight:150Height:32Have you heard of the Old Irish Goat? The Old Irish Goat was Ireland's only goat breed until around 1900. They have a thick cashmere undercoat under a long outer coat to keep them warm in frigid western Ireland winters. Unlike the modern breeds of dairy goat, the Old Irish Goat can be found in a variety of colours and colour patterns. Large numbers were once imported into England and Scotland annually, being called the 'harbingers of spring' as the drovers arrived in each town and village. In domestication, the breed could give up to 200 gallons of milk a year. Sadly, this beautiful landrace is rapidly disappearing from the craggy reaches of County Mayo, which prompted the formation of the Old Irish Goat Society. The main aim of the Society is to preserve and promote the Old Irish goat, the original and only landrace breed of goat in Ireland.

Rajhanpuri Goat:They are the Beetals of Rajhanpur, it is most strongest opinion about this breed. They are pure white in color with Pinkish mat skin and their hoof are white too. They are the habitat of Rajhanpur, and that is why they are called Rajhanpuri goats. Most importantly they have loosing skin with heavy wrinkles on it under their chin. Both the males and females have no horns. They are also known as Rajhanpuri Kapla.

Weight: Male 42 to 45 kg / Female 36 to 39 kgHeight: Male 75 to 78 cm / Female 74 - 76 cmThe breed's name is derived from the term Jamna Par, which refers to the river Jamna in India's Uttar Pradesh region. Compared to other goat breeds, the Jamnapari is a dying breed, with only less than 5000 goats left in India and Asia. This is why the country has exported the goat to other countries in an effort to cross breed it with other breeds. The Jamnapari is the largest breed of goat in India, and the country has now redoubled its efforts in breeding, conserving and improving the breed. The breed is most commonly domesticated for its milk and meat. Jamnapari does produce an average of 200kg of milk for every lactation cycle, which lasts 191 days. However, the main reason why the breed has limited numbers is because it is well-known for its meat. Jamnapari meat is said to be low in cholesterol, which has made it a delicacy. This may be due to the goat's diet. Unlike other breeds, which prefer ground grazing, Jamnapari goats feed on tree leaves, shrubs and bushes. While goats of this breed have white coats with tan patches, it can also come in other colors like brown, black and gray. They are said to have parrot-like appearances due to their convex noses. Both sexes of the breed have horns and long ears that droop to the side. They are long-legged and are short-haired, except for the rear area, where they have a long growth of fur.

The Cashmere industry then was formally established in the United States. The Cashmere industry in the United States is still at its developing stage but has enormous potential to becoming a major global producer.
American Cashmere goats are relatively large sized and has a mild nature which makes this breed compatible alongside cattle and sheep. This is also very easy to handle as they are relatively smaller than dairy goats. Cashmere goats are typical bred and raised for purposes of meat production, land cultivation, and fiber production. The mature male usually weighs around 150 lbs, while the mature female weighs 100 lbs.
The American Cashmere usually produce offspring from February to March which is also the most conducive period for selecting and purchasing goats. These are usually weaned around three months of age. Breeders get to see the Cashmere goat's full fleece usually in December just before shearing.
