The Navajo-Churro breed rams can have two, four, six, or more horns. This is because they possess the polycerate gene, which is also found in old heritage breeds like the Jacob Sheep. They also have the ability to have fused horns. Ewes also can have horns. The color can be black, white, or striped. The growth of ram horns is slow. A full rack takes at least four to five years to grow out. A ewe's horns can also grow large, but not to the extent of the rams. The horns often curl around to the front, and should be away, and not close to the face. The horn quality is essential to getting good genetics in a flock; bad horns in the sire will continue down through his offspring. Horns can break, and as they are living at the base, they will bleed.

Despite its name, the Irish goat is not native to the country of Ireland. Instead, it was brought over to be domesticated and kept for its skin, milk and meat. Over time, more and more Irish goats have been released into captivity either after escaping their owners or being deliberately set free. This is why a lot of feral Irish goats can be seen in the mountainous regions of Ireland. The goat's feral counterparts have thrived in the wild because they are nimble and can manage sharp cliffs easily.
Although the domesticated and the feral versions of the breed have retained their similarities, the feral goats have shaggier hair and larger horns. Due to their long shaggy coats, these goats are comfortable with the cold weather, and can survive on grazing lands and wild shrubbery.

Unique to other goat breeds which can be found in Ireland or Great Britain, this breed was said to be related to other breeds of goats like Pashmina, Maltese or Cashmere. There is only one herd of this breed. People from Bilberry believe that the Bilberry goat was brought in by Huguenots from France over 300 years ago. This breed is actually close to extinction. In the year 2000, it only numbered 7 and in 2005, there were only 21. There were local volunteers who set up a charitable institution in 2000 called The Bilberry Goat Heritage Trust to help protect these goats from extinction.
The Bilberry used to graze in a 14-acre land that used to be commonage. It was sold to a developer that will turn it into a residential area. This action would make the breed extinct and there were several appeals made publicly to protect the breeds from extinction. The Zoning authorities reduced the goats area to 12.5 acres instead of the original 14 acres. The Irish Wildlife Trust is aggressively building the campaign to protect the Bilberry because under the Wildlife Act 2000, the Bilberry is not actually a protected species and Bilberry Rock is not a Natural Heritage Area. The American Cashmere is a distinct breed of fiber goat which produces cashmere wool that refers to its two-coated fleece or downy and smooth guard hair which is one of today's lucrative raw materials processed to meet the surging demands for commercial quality and quantity.
The Cashmere breed found in the United States are said to come from the feral goat breed which originated from Australia. The research on cashmere down production started in the early 1970s wherein the American purebred goats are producing down but is not abundant enough for commercial purposes. It was in the 1980's that Cashmere goats were imported from New Zealand and Australia. Proper and standardized selection and breeding was done with the purebreds and the Cashmere breed. The Cashmere industry then was formally established in the United States. The Cashmere industry in the United States is still at its developing stage but has enormous potential to becoming a major global producer.
American Cashmere goats are relatively large sized and has a mild nature which makes this breed compatible alongside cattle and sheep. This is also very easy to handle as they are relatively smaller than dairy goats. Cashmere goats are typical bred and raised for purposes of meat production, land cultivation, and fiber production. The mature male usually weighs around 150 lbs, while the mature female weighs 100 lbs.
The American Cashmere usually produce offspring from February to March which is also the most conducive period for selecting and purchasing goats. These are usually weaned around three months of age. Breeders get to see the Cashmere goat's full fleece usually in December just before shearing.
