BEARIGS AND BUSHES are normally made of strips having Bi-metal (steelbacked copper / lead) low carbon-steel cylindrical backup strip on to which theprincipal bearing material is cast or roll-bonded.
This combination is known as bi-metal bearing. These are used to minimize thefriction between two moving parts.
A bearing surface has to be strong to withstand high oil filling pressures. Itneeds to be hard to minimize wear and prevent failure from fatigue.
