At Aurora Custom Machining, we were asked to manufacture a turbo component for a customer in the transportation industry. This project was very demanding because the scroll was fabricated from an expensive casting and it included complex interior dimensions. Working with ASM cast iron, we started with the casting and used our CNC OM-60 vertical lathe, a YCMTV1588 vertical machining center, and our CNC Fortune 630 horizontal machining center to manufacture the turbo intake scroll. After deburring, the scroll was subjected to both dimensional and visual inspection. This component, which was 302mm high and weighed a little over 167 lbs., was fabricated to exacting tolerances of ±0.050mm from a 2D CAD drawing and according to rigid customer specifications. Our team manufactured five of these intake scrolls in only six weeks for delivery to a satisfied customer in the Midwest.
