This old Kurdish Mat was made originally as the face of a saddle bag (khorjin). The diamond pattern probably relates to the Jaf or the Sanjabi tribes of west Iran.It has a wool pile hand-knotted onto wool warps. Interestingly each diamond is different and the white inner border curiously narrows at one end (folk art at its best)!
