Concept of Induction Lamp :An Induction Lamp is an Electrode-Less Fluorescent Lamp. Without electrodes, the lamp relies on the fundamental principles of electromagnetic induction and gas discharge to create light. When the low frequency supply applied then the current flows through the energizing coils wrapping around the ferrite cores, inductive electric field is produced around a gas-filled glass tube and the gas is discharged. The discharge path forms a closed loop causing acceleration of free electrons, which collide with mercury atoms and excited electrons from these atoms fall back from this higher energy state level, they emit ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The UV radiation created is converted to visible light as it passes through a phosphor coating (Fluorescent Powder) on the surface of the tube. Thus Light is produced. The elimination of filaments and electrodes results in a lamp of unmatched life. Lasting 100, 000 hours.

The load exerted by Harmonics on the power network nowadays is increased dramatically. The Harmonic currents are caused by non linear loads. A non linear load is a consumer of electricity that draws a non sinusoidal current
from the supply network. These Harmonic current flows in addition to the regular sine wave, which generates additional losses in the electrical installations. This can result in the thermal overload. The major impact of the harmonic current results in the non sinusoidal voltage wave form that can compromise the Voltage quality. Sensitive loads like medical devices, It infrastructure etc can be affected with such type of Distorted Supply voltage.
Harmonics are dangerous for capacitors connected in the PFC circuit, especially if they operate at a resonant frequency.
The series connection of a reactor and capacitor to detune the series resonant frequency (the capacitors resonant requency) helps to prevent capacitor damage. The most critical frequencies are the 5th and 7th harmonics (250 and 350 Hz at 50 Hz grid frequency). Detuned capacitor banks also help to reduce the harmonic distortion level and clean the network.
