Conveyorised quenching tanks are designed for continuously transferring oil quenched work pieces from a continuous hardening furnace such as Shaker Hearth Furnace or conveyor belt furnace to the next station such as working machine or tempering furnace basket.
Electrically Heated Conveyor Mesh Belt Tempering Furnace MODEL CBTF # 8x150, #16x150, # 24x150 and # 32x150 are ideal for high volume production of small and medium size components such as Fasteners. Chain links, bearing components, Diaphragm Springs and like.
Two versions are available in these MODELS: one suitable for application up to 500C and the other up to 700C. Whereas other constructional details remain the same, the furnace internals, such as fans, furnace hearth are made of thick mild steel in the first version 500C and of stainless steel AISI 304 in the other version 700C. Work pieces are loaded at the front end either in batch quantities or continuously from the Continuous Washing Machine or Induction Furnace. The drive is provided on the tail end drum. Finished products are removed in baskets for packing.

The work Piece are placed or fastened on customer designed fixtures or basket and loaded into the retort to retort to rest on specially designed bottom casting. In the case of large or long components, like axles or tractors gears, which are preferably vertically loaded, special supports are welded inside the retort near the top to allow the pieces to hang freely minimizing distortion. He complete installation for carburising / hardening comprises any of the following equipment in addition to the furnace MODEL PGC:
Air Cooled Pit
Water Cooled Cooling Tank.
Water Quenching Tank.
Oil Quenching Tank.
The choice of particular equipment depends on the process requirement. Work pieces requiring direct hardening are quenched from the austenising temperature into an oil or water- quenching tank as per requirement of the material. Work piece, requiring fine grain structure after carburising, are cooled under protective atmosphere either by tacking the entire retort assembly into an air cooled cooling pit or by tacking the charge into retorted the sealed water cooled tank. After this slow cooling the work pieces are reheated in the furnace Model PGC and then quenched. Thus, in addition to the quenching tank is needed for the purpose of grain refining. A spare retort assembly will nearly double the production by heating one charge in the furnace while other retort with charge is being cooled in the air cooled cooling pit.
Two Option are available for manufacturing protective gas in one option, the protective gas is made externally in a special gas generator or brought in commercial bottles and fed to the furnace, while in the other the gas is generated INSITU by feeding methanol. For active carburising and carbonitriding either liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or carburising, either liquid is introduced. In some cases, to simplify the installation, VHT has specially designed a VHT SPECIFICATION NO TE:206-1 to create the atmosphere. In case of carbonitriding ammonia gas is also introduced for generation of nascent nitrogen.
The electrically heated pit type furnace with forced air circulation are ideal for tempering small or large batch quantities. The furnace are available in two versions : One with working temperature of 500C and other with working temperature of 750C.
The first version (500 C) is suitable for :
Annealing ferrous & non-ferrous components.
Tempering of ferrous & non- ferrous components.
Solution treatment of Aluminium Alloys. (For handling large loads with short quench delays of 5-10 seconds, we have designed a special elevator furnace with sliding bottom.
Precipitation hardening.
Preheating of components before slat bath treatment. The second version (750C) is suitable for:
- Tempering of high speed steel, hot working and cold working steel and tool steels.
- Tempering of high tensile fasteners.
- Tempering of furnace forging.
