Overview
The 6430B and 6440B Precision Component Analyzers provide thorough and accurate testing of any passive component to high resolution. In particular, for capacitor manufacturers, the instruments provide capabilities for both fast automatic production testing and complete design characterisation. Users include designers of passive components, manufacturing test, designing and testing materials as well as circuit designers who are evaluating component characteristics.
The resonant frequency can be automatically calculated for any component together with its equivalent series or parallel circuit at that frequency. Both instruments are designed for high performance testing of components, with a basic accuracy of 0.02%, at a low price. 6430B is the entry level instrument covering to 500 kHz whilst the fully featured 6440B covers to 3 MHz.
To evaluate a component performance at high speed over a specified range of frequencies, multi frequency mode is used. In this mode the operator decides which parameter is to be measured and at what frequencies. The 6430B and 6440B does the rest, creating an easy to read table on the large LCD display. Each test can have a simple Pass/Fail display.
Fast automatic multi-frequency production testing of capacitors
The 6430B and 6440B deliver fast automatic testing of capacitors in a production environment. The user is able to select measurements from any of the instruments range and perform up to eight different tests on each component. Tolerance bins can be selected for each of the tests. The instrument selects the overall bin after completing all the tests. The measured results can be output over the GPIB or to a printer. The test sequence is triggered by external input, GPIB or the front panel. Once the test sequence is complete the bin is selected and the measured data is made available on the GPIB. This process takes place at very high speed allowing a dual frequency test to be completed in approximately 180 ms. Pass/Fail data in statistical form is available to the user and can be viewed on the LCD display, printed to a local printer or exported over the GPIB.
Protection against charged capacitors
High precision measuring instruments can be sensitive to charged capacitors and if connected can lead to costly repairs and unacceptable downtime. Wayne Kerr Electronics have identified this problem and developed a solution that protects the test equipment from charged capacitors. In this event, the protection unit blows fuses, which can be easily and cheaply replaced, whilst the test equipment remains unharmed and continues to provide reliable accurate performance. The protection unit will protect the test equipment from up to 25 Joules of charged energy.

The Danbridge suite of instruments for precise measurement of capacitive, inductive and resistance parameters includes stand-alone measurement bridges for laboratory use as well as automatic systems for rapid measurement of a large number of components in industrial environments.
Main applications:Fast and precise testing of capacitors in automatic sorting machines.
Test of Film / Foil capacitors:Film / foil capacitors testing is typical performed by 1kHz capacitance test and 100kHz tan or ESR test. The double frequency testing is a unique feature which can be preformed in less than 50msec with sorting output to the bin sorting devices in the sorting machine.
When testing film / foil capacitors we suggest to use the Capacitance Tester DB232. This instrument or the earlier CT30, are more or less the industrial standard for automatic testing of film / foil capacitors and are used by the majority of the largest film / foil capacitor manufacturers world-wide.
For insulation testing of capacitors, please note that an excellent match to DB232 (or the old CT30) is the fast Megohmmeter DB622. With pre-charge and fine-charge high voltage power supplies and several charge stations, high speed testing can be secured with Danbridge Megohmmeters.
If you are using old Danbridge Capacitor Testers (such as CT20 and CT30), DB232 is the logic choice for replacing these. Especially as the DB232 has built-in CT30 mode, making it fast and simple to replace the old CT20 and CT30 Component Testers. Please note that the old CT20 and CT30 Component Testers are no longer supported. However, by exchanging old Danbridge equipment with new, we are able to offer you buy-back prices for the old instruments as well as flexible payments or leasing for similar new equipment.
Test of Tantalum capacitors:Tantalum capacitors or large film / foil capacitors are often tested by the High Capacitance Tester DB236. This instrument has in addition to the facilities of DB232 also possibilities for impedance test for instance @ 10kHz or 100kHz.
Test of Ceramic capacitors:Ceramic capacitors need to be tested by 1kHz or 1MHz depending of capacitance value. The Capacitance Tester DB230 shows excellent performance @ 1kHz and is one of the fastest Capacitor Testers in the market with test speed down to 6ms @ 1MHz including sorting output.Consequently the DB230 is very suitable for exploiting the high speed of todays SMT sorting machines and thereby secure high return of investment by giving you a high output of quality capacitors.
Examples of other CLR applications:General test of capacitors, measurement of transformers and coils, test of passive components in Pick and Place machines by DB233z, test of cables, test of condenser microphones and resistance and inductance in winded power resistors.
Key FeaturesThe Danbridge Megohmmeter program is designed for fast measurement of leakage currents and insulation resistance (IR) of various components, cables, materials, etc. The fast and powerful measurement cycles, the high accuracy, and the broad measurement range make the Danbridge Megohmmeters to one of the most versatile insulation measurement instruments on the market today.
Main applications:Fast and precise testing of capacitors in automatic sorting machines.
IR testing of Film / Foil capacitors up to 500V DC:Most Film / foil capacitors are being IR tested by test voltages up to 500V DC. As charging means time and time is money, Danbridge has developed a unique feature in the Megohmmeter DB622. Simply, this instrument has 2 independent high voltage (HV) power supplies, one for powerful pre-charge (up to 200mA) and one for fine-charge (up to 80 mA). Consequently you can optimize your sorting machine by connecting the pre-charge HV power supply of DB622 to some pre-charge stations and the fine-charge to approximately the double number of stations. Then your capacitors are charged enough during the cycle time to be correctly measured (with sorting output) and to maintain a high quality and high output. By using Danbridge equipment, you secure high return of investment on the sorting line.
Further technical information is available from Danbridge or you may study our simple sketch of how to install our double HV power supply Megohmmeters on automatic sorting machines. Please not that Danbridge installation team is able to assisting you getting the instrument to work correctly.
IR testing of Film / Foil capacitors up to 1kV DC:For Film / foil capacitors for IR test with voltages up to 1kV DC, Danbridge has developed a similar Megohmmeter as mentioned above, the DB623 with 2 x 1kV power supplies with facilities as explained for DB622. Just the 2 independent HV power supplies have a maximum voltage of 1000V. The pre-charge supply can deliver up to 100mA, and the fine-charge supply can deliver up to 80 mA).
Please note that for capacitance and tan testing of film capacitors, an excellent match to DB622 / DB623 and the old DB602 is the Capacitance Tester DB232. Clik on the link and learn more about the fast Capacitance Tester with the unique dual frequency facility.
IR testing of HV capacitors:Insulation Testing of HV capacitors was earlier more complicated. Today Danbridge have a solution for DC testing up to 2kV by using DB625-2kV or up to 5kV by using DB625-5kV. These Megohmmeters are designed with one HV power supply only, but probably with the markets most powerful charge capability of up to 45mA @2kV and 18mA @ 5kV. Again time is money, so why waste costly test time by using less advanced equipment.
IR testing of multiple capacitorsIn order to reduce IR test time Danbridge can supply an IR scanner DB640 with facilities to charge up to 40 channels almost simultaneously. The DB640 shall be controlled from a Danbridge Megohmmeter DB621 or the HV Megohmmeter DB625. The idea is to charge all channels one time in parallel and thereafter by a quick scan to get results from up to 40 capacitors.By adding modules (each of 4 channels) the DB640 can be optimised for any application up to 40 channels. The scanner has sorting output, GO / NO GO for each channel installed, making the system very suitable for automatic IR testing of for instance multiple ceramic capacitors in multi-channel automatic sorting machines or manual laboratory testing.
Examples of typical applications:Test of leakage current in capacitors, measurement of high-voltage resistors, test of insulation in cables and harness, testing leakage current in high voltage generators and motors, and test of the electrical insulation value of various materials, e.g. many different plastics.
The Megohmmeters are widely used at power plants and in the medico-industry.For testing of large items such as electrical motors, generators, cables, etc. using test voltages up to 1kV, Danbridge has developed the Megohmmeter DB620, with floating HV power supply. By having the HV power supply floating, it is easy and safe to test HV up to 1kV @ ground level and at the same time measure leakage current or insulation resistance of the circuits, cables, connectors inside the test object. In order to understand this principle better, please contact Danbridgesales@danbridge.dkfor further information or study the simple sketch for this application.
