Why is Aritech® Reticulated Vitreous Carbon (RVC) foam so special?
Aritech® manufacture and distribute worldwide the different shape and size of RVC foam of unique and repeatability properties by a patented technology on affordable prices for research and industrial applications in various sectors. Aritech® RVC is a rigid, highly porous and permeable structure and has a controlled density of carbon per unit volume. The matrix of cells and ligaments is completely repeatable, regular, and uniform throughout the entirety of the material.
Applications :
Vitreous or Glassy carbon is a form of pure carbon produced by the thermal decomposition of a three-dimensionally crosslinked polymer. It has a high flexural strength. The zero open porosity gives a low permeability to gases. Glassy carbon has excellent resistance to a wide range of aggressive chemical environments and can, therefore, be used as an alternative material to precious metals for laboratory equipment and, for example, for electrodes in polarography.
Vitreous Carbon Foam has an open pore structure and extremely high porosity, giving a high surface area and low resistance to fluid flow. It is chemically inert in non-oxidising environments over a wide temperature range, maintains strength at high temperatures and is thermally insulating yet electrically conducting. Applications include use as porous electrodes, thermal insulation, filtration, substrate support and acoustic control.

The key features are: High purity, resistance in inert gas or vacuum up to 3000°C and in air up to 600°C, corrosion resistance, Impermeability to gas and liquids, no open porosity, high hardness and strength, low density, extreme resistance to thermal shock, good electrical conductivity, no wetting by many saline, metallic and ceramic melts, physical and chemical properties are isotropic.
