Used for testing crushed rocks, crushed slag, crushed and uncrushed gravel fro resistance to abrasion. The machine consists of a hallow cylinder mounted horizontally on a sturdy frame on ball bearings. There is an opening which can be closed with a dust tight cover to facilitate charging and discharging the drum with the material under test. A detachable shelf which extends throughout the inside length of the drum which catches the abrassive charge and does not allow it to fall on the cover. The drum is rotated by an electric motor through a heavy reduction gear at a speed of 30-33 r.p.m. A revolution counter is fitted to the frame. A tray is supplied for collection of the material at the end of the test. Complete with abrassive charges consisting of a set of twelve hardened steel balls, approximately 48mm dia. The machine is designed for portability, operating convenience and accuracy. It is a compact and self-contained. Unit ideally suited for mobile and field laboratories. Specimens up to 15cms cubes and 15 cms dia x 30 cms high cylinders can be accommodated. Load measurement is done by a 15 cms dial bourdon tube type hydraulic pressure gauge calibrated in 100 divisions, fitted with a maximum pointer (lagless pointer). The gauge is calibrated against an RTC tested proving ring. The machine is of channel construction (also available in pillar type construction), giving excellent lateral rigidity. The hydraulic loading unit is located on the base of the loading machine. The hydraulic jack is precision machined. The piston and cylinder are ground and lapped to fine tolerances. The lower platen can be centrally located on the base, and has concentric grooves for centering the specimen. Spacer is provided to test small specimens. The upper platen is mounted on a swivel arrangement for self-aligning action. The pump is fitted integral on the testing machine along with oil reservoir. For testing aggregates for resistance to abrasion. It consists of a disc rotating about a shaft connected to a reduction gear box coupled to a motor. The disc rotates at 28-30 r.p.m. Under the rotating disc is a tray with an outlet to facilitate the removal of sand. Two conical hoppers are mounted on a bracket fixed to the circular tray. An arrangement is made for start and stop the flow of sand. Two holes are provided for mounting two specimens simultaneously. Two containers with weights are supplied to keep the specimens pressed against the rotating disc. Suitable for operation on 220 volts, 50 cycles, A.C. supply.
Flexural tests of concrete beam have their own importance in concrete Road Constructions as well as Buildings constructions. Normally concrete beams of sizes 10cm x 10cm x 50cm or 15cm x 15cm x 70cm are tested for flexural strength.The machine consists of a hand operated load frame. The lower platen has two rollers, the distance between which is adjustable. For 150mm x 150mm x 700mm beam, the centre to centre difference between the rollers is 600mm, while it is 400mm for beams of size 100mm x 100mm x 500mm size beam. A pressure gauge to indicate load is fixed on the load frame. A small pumping unit is attached to the load frame. Total capacity of the machine is 100 KN and a 150mm dia pressure gauge - 100 KN x 1 KN is fitted on the machine. Since this is a hand operated lightweight machine, it is useful for field laboratory also.
