For determining the scratch hardness of ready mixed paints and enamels, which is the minimum load required to produce a scratch showing the bare metal surface of the painted panel. The apparatus consists of a 1mm dia hemispherical stainless steel needle, fixed to a platform of a counter-balanced rod which is assembled on a grooved platform. Used to determine the strength values of a rock specimen both in the field and in the laboratory. It consists of a load frame for applying loads up to 55 KN, on which a manual hydraulic jack is mounted. The instrument accepts core specimens up to 4” (101, 6 mm) diameter which are loaded by two coneshaped points. A graduated scale indicates the distance between the conical points. The applied load is measured by a pressure transducer with a digital display unit range 0-56kN, 65.000 divisions, 0, 001 kN resolution, accuracy: ± 1%. The strength index (IS) is got by the formula P : D2 where P is the strength and D the space between the two conical points.

This equipment is used for determining unconfined compressive strength of intact rock core specimens. The rock sample is cut to length and the ends are machined flat. Permeability test on pozzolana cement mortar and cement mortar with or without the addition of integral water proofing compound is carried out using a brass cell of 100 mm dia and 50 mm high. Each cell with collar is clamped in-between a base plate and a top plate with the help of tension rods and nuts. The cell assembly is mounted on the stand. The top plate is provided with an inlet and air release vent and the base plate is provided with an outlet. A pressure chamber is fitted with a pressure regulator and a pressure gauge 0-10 kg/cm² indicating the chamber pressure, and a pressuregauge 0-7 kg/cm² indicating the test pressure. In three cell model, a pressure chamber is provided with foot pump, whereas in six cell model, the chamber is not provided, as this model is intended to be used with a compressor.
