About Jammu
Located on the banks of Tawi River, Jammu is the largest city in Jammu Districts. This is the city that lies at jagged edges of low heights of the Shivalik hills. It is constructed on a sequence of ridges and is spread all over the Tawi River with five bridges over it. Jammu is the city that is also known as the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It is believed by an extensive historians and locals that Raja Jambu Lochan was the one who founded Jammu in the 14th century BC. The climate of this region is a humid subtropical climate that is similar to what the other north-western places of India witness.
Theology and Culture
The major portion of Jammu is encompassing Hindu Brahmin priests, but there are other people from different religions such as Sikhs, Buddhists and Muslims. And that’s not all! There are many ethnic tribes here as well such as Sudans, Paharis, Khatris, Mahajans, Chibalis, Kishtwari, and Dogras. We can conclude by saying that Jammu flaunts the diversity of its culture. Talking about the languages of this region, people mostly speak Kashmiri, Ladakhi, and Dogri dialects. Baisakhi, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hemis and Lohri Festival are the major festivals that the folks of Jammu celebrate with enthusiasm. The traditional clothing for men here is Kurta Pyjama in summers and woolen clothes in winters where an overcoat namely, Pheran is worn over the Kurta. For women, ladies suit and Bukh are must.
