A Workshop on the Prevention of Trafficking in NPS, Synthetic Opioids and Related Precursors was organized by International Narcotics Control Bureau in Hanoi, Vietnam on December 06, 2019. It was INCB’s 2nd international workshop on public-private partnerships and 5th in the series of specialized expert meetings & industry partners. 70 participants from 21 countries and territories, 4 international organizations and 9 representatives from private sector partners participated in the 3-day event hosted by INCB. The objective was to build e-commerce partnerships to address the internet trafficking of dangerous substances. With the focus on averting exploitation of legitimate e-commerce, the workshop highlighted practical & voluntary partnerships with industry to make illicit trades of non-medical fentanyl-related and other dangerous substances more difficult.
In recent years, voluntary public-private partnerships have come to play an important role in global precursor control. The concept aims to prevent the diversion of chemicals for illegitimate purposes through the collective efforts of national authorities and the private sector. INCB has further expanded the partnership to include legitimate e-commerce and B2B operators, marketing and social media, online financial service providers, and express mail and courier service providers.
