It is formed in the heartwood of AQUILARIA TREES when they become infected with a type of mold (Phialophora parasitica).The tree reacts by producing a dark, scented resin, which is popularly called LIQUID GOLD / OUD OIL. Oud is so expensive is because of its rarity. Less than 2% of wild agar trees produce it.
