The global annual production is about 2.1 million tons of raw nuts, the main cashew production region are africa, india, vietnam and brazil. The cashew tree is capable of living for 50-60 years, most cashew trees start bearing fruit in the third or fourth year and are likely to reach their mature yield by the seventh year if conditions are favourable. The main cashew products are traded in the international market-raw nuts,cashew kernels and cashew nut shell liquid. Cashew nuts consist of 35-45% seeds and around 55-65% of shells. Nigeria is ranked the 2nd largest producer of cashew with an estimated production capacity of over 800,000 metric tonnes per annum.
