A good video surveillance system can make your business safer, more efficient, and less prone to theft and accidents. Specifically, video surveillance can provide many benefits:

The CCTV Camera industry is all abuzz with talk of an IP camera takeover these days. Reports of the death of analog cameras are yet premature. While some IP/Network cameras can potentially deliver HD megapixel images, analog cameras continue to offer greater efficiency and higher overall reliability in a lower cost. Before deciding on IP cameras v/s analog, it is advisable to first understand how the technologies work. The differences in both cctv technologies and method of video transmission are critical to developing a well planned CCTV Camera solution.
ANALOG CCTV CAMERA :- An analog CCTV camera has a inbuilt sensor which captures the video image.  The resolution of the sensor varies but is limited to 720×575 Maximum.  This is 720 pixels   across the screen (horizontal resolution) and 575 up  and down (vertical resolution). To get the video out of the CCTV camera into a Digital Video recorder and display device LCD/LED, a single coax cable is used.  To maintain compatibility with analog televisions, the signal that comes out of the camera complies with broadcast television standards. NTSC or PAL.

Cameras on an modern analog CCTV system send their video over coaxial or UTP cable back to a digital video recorder (DVR). Here, video is converted from Analog to Digital form   and stored on    Surveillance hard disks. Most modern DVRs are a network Enabled device, and as such can be accessed remotely from the LAN, or from across a WAN or the internet. Video is kept on hard drives, typically on a FIFO (first-in, first-out) basis, so there is always a rolling video archive of the past X days. So, despite the fact that video is being transmitted from the cameras in an analog format, live and recorded video is still available over the network. In Short, Analog CCTV cameras are perfect Solution for smaller use like in small offices or in residential scenario.

CCTV SYSTEM :- IP cameras have an image sensor much same as analog cameras.  However, once it has captured its image or video, it transmits it as “data” over a network connection.  That digital data   is in the form of compressed video frames sent over standardized networking protocol used for computer applications which is where it gets its name. “IP” stands for Internet Protocol which is the low-level language used to transmit data between computers in your home/office and the Internet. IP video cameras broadcast their video as a digital stream over an IP network. Like an analog system, video is recorded on hard drives, but since the video is an IP stream straight from the camera, there is more flexibility as to how and where that video is recorded. The DVR is replaced with an NVR (network video recorder), which in some cases is just software since it doesn't need to convert analog to digital. Video footage can then be stored on new or existing network RAID drives as directed by the NVR software.

High Resolution is one of the biggest factors driving interest in IP video systems that IP cameras can offer. Analog cameras max out on resolution at about 700/620 TVL which equates to roughly 0.6 mega pixels. On the other hand, High end IP cameras, are currently available at resolutions above 5 mega pixels. This high resolution in turn gives users the ability to zoom in on video after the fact, and still have usable video. Another benefit to IP CCTV cameras is that it is much more compatible with wireless. Wireless analog systems are available, but they either have to convert to IP anyway and broadcast over the 802.11 IP network (which adds cost for encoders), or they get crammed onto the over saturated regulated frequencies and often encounter interference. IP Video will almost always be more expensive, but the   availability of much higher resolution recorded images makes it a much more powerful system. The ability to digitally zoom in on recorded video makes identification much more likely.

These Days, Existing analog Cameras or different companies IP cameras can easily connected and configured on a IP CCTV Network as shown in the below picture.
