Container fumigation is a kind of pest control treatment wherein a commodity or the vessel itself is put through a particular kind of process in order to eliminate the risk of any kind of pests, and hence, the possibility of any type of disease, from entering or leaving the geographical boundaries of a particular place. The term �fumigation� may be generally described as making a vessel or container air tight, that is, one where even no air is allowed to pass inwards or outwards from it, thus eradicating the possibility of pests entering the environment.

The first one is known as the Pressure Decay process of fumigation, which involves testing the pressure of the container, and checking if it matches the required value. In case the container manages to maintain that particular value over a period of time, it is said to be �gas tight� and hence, further processes are not required to be gone through before transporting the container itself, or the commodity within it. This term, �gas tight� means that the container is in a condition where it allows not even the tiny particles of gas to enter itself, leave alone pests of any kind.
