Ginger is a flowering plant whose root is widely applied as a spice in food or used as medicine in the treatment of various health conditions. The binomial name of ginger in Zingiber officinale. It grows stems about a metre tall with narrow green leaves and yellow flowers. Its origin is traced to the tropical rainforest in Southern Asia, it is believed to have come from the Indian subcontinent because the ginger plants grown in India show the largest amount of genetic variation. Ginger contains about 4 aromatic constituents including zingiberene and bisabolene. The pungent phenol compounds known as gingerols and shoals contain antioxidant properties. These constituents are the essential healing properties of ginger.
Uses :
