Fenugreek comes from the planet family of Fabecea and its seeds are used as a spice and leaves as herb. Fenugreek seed is the ripe fruit of the annual herb. The seeds are either used whole or as powdered spices. Fenugreek seeds are small hard stony. yellowish brown and angular or cuboid in shape. They have a warm and penetrating aroma, which becomes more pronounced on roasting. India is the world's largest producer Fenugreek seeds.

Fenugreek is used either as an herb (dried or fresh leaves or as a spice (seeds). The fenugreek seeds are frequently encountered in the cuisines of the Indian subcontinent. Fenugreek seeds are thought to be a galactagogue that is often used to increase milk supply in lactating women.Medicinally, the fenugreek seeds are used in colic flatulence, dysentery diarrhea dyspepsia, chronic cough and enlargement of liver and spleen, rickets gout and diabetes. It is also used as a carminative tonic and aphrodisiac. Fenugreek oil and powder are used in the manufacturing of hair tonics
