It is a tropical plant and its origin is presumed to be in the Eastern region of Asia and India. From India, it reached the Mediterranean region during the 1st Century and to East Africa in the 13th Century. Later it has spread to almost all the tropical countries.
Ginger produces a hot, fragrant kitchen spice. Young ginger rhizomes are juicy and fleshy with a very mild taste. They are often pickled in vinegar or sherry as a snack or cooked as an ingredient in many dishes.
