The propane in the tank is at a pressure of approximately 150 psi. Our gas appliances require much lower pressure, so a regulator is used to reduce that pressure. RV gas regulators are a two stage device that reduces that 150 psi to 0.4 psi. The first stage reduces pressure to about 10 to 15 psi. The second stage reduces to the 0. psi level. When pressures are this low, they are measured with a very specialized device called a manometer. The measurement is in inches of water column and 0.4 psi equals 11 inches of water column.
