Contact SupplierJasvish Enterprise offers the cardamom of commerce, which is the dried ripe fruit, also known as the “Queen of Spices,” derived from the capsules of the cardamom plant. This perennial, herbaceous, rhizomatous plant belongs to the family Zingiberaceae and has the botanical name Elettaria cardamomum.
Cardamom is native to India and Sri Lanka, where it grows in the wild. It has been introduced and cultivated in various tropical Asian countries. The plant grows in thick clumps of up to 20 leafy shoots and can reach a height of between 2 to almost 6 meters.
The fruits of the plant are pale green to yellow and elongated oval-shaped, with each fruit containing three chambers filled with small aromatic seeds, each about 3mm long. The fruits and seeds dry to a straw-brown color and are widely used as flavoring in different cuisines.
