India Mark II hand pumps are widely accepted internationally and are one of the most reliable and sturdy pumps originating from a developing country. The hand pump consists of the aboveground mechanism comprising of Pump Head, Handle, Water Tank and Stand assemblies and the belowground mechanism comprising of Riser Pipes, Connecting Rods and Cylinder assembly. The entire above ground components are fabricated out of steel sections, hence they are strong and sturdy. Under the Hand pump project of the UNDP/World Bank, extensive trials were conducted of twelve different Deep well Hand pumps from all over the world, including France, Holland, Canada, Sweden, U.K., U.S.A. and India. The parameter for testing included:  Easy installation and utility.  Mechanical and Volumetric efficiency  Frequency of breakdowns and maintenance needed  User acceptability  Resistance to corrosion, abuse and neglect. From these tests the India Mark II emerged as the best hand pump amongst all.
