opaque polymer consists of a styrene-acrylic copolymer emulsion providing non-pigment hiding of emulsion paints and related system. The emulsion particle is non-film forming spherical bead consisting of a hard polystyrene/acrylic shell with a hollow core. Initially, this core is filled with water in the emulsion state and in the wet paint. When opaque polymer is incorporated into the water base paint formulation and paint applied to the surface of substrate and allowed to dry, the water diffused out from the core of the micro beads is replaced by air making air void within the bead which serves as an excellent light scattering media.
Opaque polymer 332 is free of alkyl phenyl polyoxyethylene ether (apeo) derivative surfactant which is known as a kind of mimic estrogen. Because opaque polymer has fine particle size, could be applied to the gloss paint, semi-gloss paint and sheen paint, and show good gloss and hiding.
