Field pea is one of the most popular food crops in the world as it is very nutritious and its cultivation is also easy. Pea usually grows in the cold areas of the world unlike the other major pulses of the world. But they have a universal appeal, as they are required in all over the world for consumption. Pea pulse is generally comes in two colors, i.e. green and yellow.
According to FAO statistics, India is one of the largest producers of field pea in the world and stands at the 5th place in the list of major field pea producers next to France. The Indian production contributes to around 7% in the world’s total produce with the production figures of 7.8 lakh tonnes. Uttar Pradesh is a major field pea producing state in India producing about 60% of the country’s produce. The other major pea producing state in India is Madhya Pradesh.
Soils rich in organic matter with good drainage capacity are ideal for ginger cultivation. Best suitable soils for ginger production are sandy or clayey loam, red loam and lateritic loam soils. Drainage is absolutely necessary for the prevention of disease incidence. Ginger should not be grown in the same site year-after-year.
