Petunia Plant

Petunias are annual flowering plants, and one of the most popular plant for hanging pots. Petunias, native to Argentina, are characterized by wide trumpet shaped flowers and branching foliage that is hairy and somewhat sticky.

Their flowers comes in different sizes and colors. Some of them have larger blossoms (grandiflora) and others have smaller (multiflora) blossoms ranging in white, purple, and pink colors.

There are interesting varieties found among petunia family which makes them more versatile from the others. The varieties show alteration in venation, color, texture, fragrance and growing habits of the petals. Most of the petunias sold today are hybrids.

Petunias can be  grown from seeds, but it is easier to grow them from transplants. Petunia seeds are very small and needs lots of light in order to germinate.

Do not overwater, but ensure that the soil is not dry. It grows best and blooms vigorously in warmer climate where it can get at least 5-6 hours of sunlight.

 Petunias flower translate to a meaning of anger and resentment, but there is also a contrasting meaning that speaks of just wanting to be with someone so that it is soothing.
