Reliance Butyl Rubber

Reliance produces synthetic rubber under the brand names Relflex and Reliance Sibur Elastomers Pvt Ltd. Their elastomers are used across a variety of applications, including tyres, footwear, sports goods, rollers and mechanical fenders etc.
Butyl Rubber is a synthetic rubber, a copolymer of isobutylene with isoprene. The product is impermeable to air and used in many applications requiring an airtight rubber. Butyl Rubber has good flex properties, resulting from low levels of unsaturation between long poly isobutylene segments. It also has a high level of heat resistance and excellent low-temperature flexibility.

Butyl Rubber is known for its excellent air retention characteristics, apart from very good weather, heat and chemical resistance property in comparison to other general purpose rubbers. These attributes make it first choice of polymer for several critical products like Automotive Inner Tubes, Tyre Curing Bladders and Air Bags, Cable Insulation, Rubber Sheets, Pharmaceutical Closures, Ball Bladders, Sealants, Roofing Membranes, Condenser packing, Printing Rolls, and Acid Tank Linings etc. Special grade could be used even for Chewing Gums. Its unique molecular structure possesses greater delayed elastic response and it’s this damping and shock absorption attribute is being utilized in automotive suspension assembly.
Applications
Butyl Rubber is used in the manufacture of tyre inner liners, automotive tubes, pharmaceutical closures, ball bladders, adhesives, sealants, vibration mounts, electrical fluids and lubricants among others.
Manufacturing
Key ingredient required to manufacture Butyl Rubber (IIR) and Halogenated butyl Rubber (HIIR) at our upcoming plant in Jamnagar is High Purity iso-Butylene (HPIB). This HPIB will be obtained from Reliance’s refinery that currently processes 62 million metric tonnes of oil per year. The integration of Reliance’s world-class refinery to their upcoming IIR and HIIR plant, will ensure an uninterrupted supply of elastomers from RSEPL and in turn secure timely supply of product to our customers.
