There are four varieties of it called Sauvarna (belonging to Gold), Rajata (of Silver), Tamra (of copper) and Ayasa (of Iron). The synonyms of Shilajatu are Adrija Saila Niryas, Gariya, Asmaja, Girija and Sailadhatuja.
