When the leaf thermocouple is placed in contact with a surface, the heat from the surface is transferred to the thermocouple junctions, generating a thermoelectric voltage that is proportional to the temperature difference between the two junctions.
Leaf-type thermocouples are often used in applications where there is a need to measure surface temperatures of objects that are difficult to access or where traditional contact thermocouples cannot be used.
