TITANIUM DIOXIDE is a white powder with many industrial and consumer applications: 

• Pigment: Titanium dioxide is used as a white pigment in paints, plastics, paper, ink, rubber, and other products. It's the whitest of all white pigments and has the highest refractive index of any known material. 

• Sunscreen: Titanium dioxide is used in some sunscreens to absorb UV light. 

• Electronics: High purity titanium dioxide is used in electronics. 

• Pharmaceuticals: Titanium dioxide is an ingredient in some medications. 

• Food colorant: Titanium dioxide is used as a food colorant. 

• Catalysts: Titanium dioxide is used in catalysts. 

• Plastics and rubber: Titanium dioxide can reduce fading, brittleness, and cracks in plastics and rubber caused by light exposure. 

• Water treatment: Titanium dioxide is used in water treatment agents. 

• Wound closure: Titanium dioxide Nano composites can help close wounds and have antibacterial properties. 

• Cancer treatment: Titanium dioxide nanostructures can be used to induce apoptosis in cancer cells. 

Titanium dioxide is produced in two main forms: pigment grade and ultrafine (nanomaterial). Pigment grade titanium dioxide is used for its light-scattering properties, while ultrafine titanium dioxide is used for its transparency and ability to absorb ultraviolet light. 

While TITANIUM DIOXIDE is not highly toxic, it can cause cancer if it's in a finely divided particulate state. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified titanium dioxide as a Group 2B carcinogen, which means it's a "possible carcinogen to humans".
