Turmeric is native to the Indian subcontinent and now popular over the world due to medicinal and culinary characteristics. Over many centuries it has been used as anti-inflammatory in Indian medicinal practice. For culinary purpose it is now used in adding flavour to the food and it is significant spice in preparing curries. It is also used in salad dressing, soups and processed food products. It is available in three types Nizam, Salem and Madras in the form of fingers and powder.
