Description

The onion plant has a fan of hollow, bluish-green leaves and the bulb at the base of the plant begins to swell when a certain day-length is reached. When the foliage dies down and the outer layers of the bulb become dry and brittle, the crop is harvested and dried and the onions are ready for use or storage.

Origin & Cultivation

Onion is a Cold Season Crop. It can be cultivated in wide range of soil from sandy loam to clay loam. Soil must have good drainage. In India, it is grown in western, northern as well as in southern parts. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar are Major onion growing states in India. This product is prepared from high quality, fresh, white varieties of Allium cepa which have been washed, sliced, dehydrated.
