In case the husk is solid black, the seeds are called as black oil sunflower seeds. On the other hand, if the husks are striped then the seeds are called striped sunflower seeds. Striped sunflower seeds are called as confectionary sunflower seeds, since they are primary used for food. Sunflower seeds are the major oil-bearing seeds, which are also used as bird feeder. Further, due to lower oil content, the crops are called non-oilseed sunflower crops. Sunflower seeds are grown in small quantities all across the country at specific time period of the year.
