Kipps Apparatus , ade of Polyethylene has three main portions. The top portion is fitted with a thistle funnel and a bulb structure through which dilute acid can be poured which react with a metal sulphide in the base of the apparatus. H S gas then envolved collects in the middle dome from where it can be released through a leakproof stopcock fitted with a self lubricating PTFE plug. The base is provided with a residual outlet fitted with a cap for easy cleaning.

Jolting Apparatus : The Jolting apparatus consists of a rectangular table, rigidly connected by two support arms to spindle at a horizontal distance of 7500 mm from the centre of the table. The table can be raised and allowed to fall freely by a cam which is connected to a motor. The cam rotates at a rate of 60 rpm. A digital counter with sensor is provided, which stops the machine after 60 jolts. Locating pins are provided for mounting the mould compartments on the table. Kelly Ball Penetration Apparatus : The apparatus is used to determine the workability of Portland cement & concrete. Pore Pressure Apparatus : This pore pressure measuring apparatus consists of a screw pressure pump,
null indicator in Perspex, pressure gauge, mercury manometer, volume change burette and the necessary connecting tubes and valves. It is used for measuring pore water pressure and pore air pressure in soils.
It has many features which simplify the operation. The Null Indicator is made from a transparent Perspex block. It is a simplified U-Tube Null Indicator, in which water can bypass mercury if null indicator is tilted; thus de-airing process by circulation of water is facilitated. All features enable a visual check to be made during the de-airing operation of apparatus. A mercury manometer and a pressure gauge of Bourdon Tube type are provided on the panel on which the whole equipment is mounted. Very small positive or negative pressures are observed on the manometer. A 50ml burette is clamped to a sliding bracket on one side of the panel. ALPHA CHEM-1325 Liquid Diffusion Coefficients Apparatus
Which overcomes the traditional problem of slow diffusion rates in liquids requiring long observation times, but without sacrificing accuracy or introducing convective effects. Essentially, the cell consists of a honeycomb of accurately dimensioned capillaries, positioned between two liquids of differing concentration of the solute whose diffusion coefficient is to be determined.
In practice, a small volume of concentrated solution is placed on one side of the honeycomb, whilst the other side consists initially of a large volume of pure solvent (water). As diffusion of the solute occurs, the concentration within the larger volume increases, and is monitored with a conductivity sensor and meter.
The mixture is continuously stirred with a magnetic stirrer to ensure uniform concentration within the bulk liquid. Whilst the conductivity sensor may be readily calibrated for any required aqueous system, for introductory studies, dilute solutions of sodium chloride are recommended, for which conductivity data is provided.

ALPHA CHEM-1323 Fixed and Fluidized Bed Apparatus
The simutaneous study of air and water systems and the phenomenon of bubbling can be observed.
The apparatus comprises three clear acrylic columns mounted above a moulded ABS base. The base contains a water reservoir with a variable speed submersible pump, which pumps water through an electronic flow meter into the base of the left hand column. This column features an overflow pipe, which returns the water back into the sump.
The two air columns are fed by variable pressure regulators, which can be used to adjust the air flow rate through the column. The air flow rate is measured using pressure sensors at discharge orifices at the top of the columns. The integral microcontroller calculates the flow rates from the pressure readings and displays these on the front panel.
Pressure drops on all three columns are measured by differential pressure sensors connected to tapping points at the top and bottom of the columns. All process measurements are displayed simultaneously on the front panel display and are available on the USB output for data logging. The software also provides powerful graph plotting facilities.

ALPHA CHEM-1330 Gaseous Diffusion Coefficient Apparatus
A small quantity of the volatile liquid to be investigated is placed in a capillary tube, which is positioned in a heated metal block. The block is heated by an electric cartridge
heater and kept at a constant temperature using an electronic control loop.
A stream of air is passed across the top of the capillary tube, with a stationary layer of air above the liquid surface, creating a partial pressure difference between the liquid surface and the flowing air stream. As vapour diffuses from the liquid into the air stream, the amount of liquid in the tube reduces and the phase boundary between the liquid and the air drops. Measurement of how this phase boundary changes with time enables the molar mass transfer rate to be determined.
A slot in the heater block enables the phase boundary to be observed using a high definition microscope. This micro-scope produces high definition images onto a standard windows computer (not supplied).
The software provided with this microscope includes highly accurate measurement and an automated time lapse facility (either as video or multiple still images).
