This is a reactor system specially designed to perform batch enzyme reaction utilizing the glucose isomerisation reaction catalyze by glucose isomerase. The unit is used to demonstrate batch enzyme kinetics and enzyme characteristics.
The fourth reactor - stirred tank reactor in series - is mounted on a dedicated unit.
The properties of different chemical reactors can be investigated by performing a saponification reaction using this trainer. The contact time and reaction temperature can be varied. Their influence on the conversion of reactants is observed in the respective reactor. The reactors are available as accessories. The unit contains two supply tanks for the liquid chemicals. Two variable speed diaphragm pumps pump the reactants through the reactor. Reactant conversion and reaction temperature are measured with a combined conductivity and temperature measuring unit. It is also possible to use PC data acquisition. The reaction is moderated using a controlled hot water circuit. The resulting reaction product is collected in a stainless steel tray in the unit.

ALPHA CHEM-1328 FILTRATION UNIT
A plate and frame batch filter (separation area 230cm) is supplied as standard. Both constant flow rate and constant pressure operation are possible.
An optional tangential flow hollow fibre microfiltration cartridge (plus pre-filter and shell and tube heat exchanger) can be fitted. The hollow fibre cartridge has a separation area of 110cm and a cut-off of 0.2 -m.
Feed flow rate can be varied between 0 and 130 l/hour.
All electrical circuits are protected by appropriate protection devices.
The console contains a pump motor control and display panel.
A separate controller displays the filter inlet pressure and is used to control the pump speed. Another digital meter displays, via a selector switch, either outlet pressure, permeate pressure, temperature or optical absorbence.
Description:
This is a bench top unit designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of solid/liquid filtration. The apparatus consists of an acrylic feed tank connecting to a progressing cavity pump which feeds a slurry to the acrylic plate and frame filter press. A pressure sensor on the output of the pump measures the filtration pressure.
The filter press consists of two end plates, two frame plates and a wash plate. The filtrate passes through an optical sensor which determines the efficiency of the filtration process. Filtrate temperature is also measured. The second inlet to the filter is for mains water for filter cake washing. A second pressure sensor and a needle valve control the water pressure during the washing cycle. A three-way valve allows filtrate to be returned to the feed tank or to a filtrate vessel/drain.

Description
The high pressure and a combination of both static and dynamic extraction phases to achieve a apid extraction of the active materials with minimum degradation to the product. In the dynamic phases, the solvent is passed through the material providing a forced percolation and agitation.
The process pressure, number of cycles and length of each phase are programmable by the user. In this way the effect of the extraction parameters on the end product can be explored and an optimum set of parameters determined for each product.
The vessel is loaded with solvent automatically under microprocessor control using a pneumatic solvent pump. Priming of the vessel and pipework is also automatic. Twin pistons (one primary and one slave) are used to generate the pressure in the vessel and to provide the solvent percolation.
