PWL Wastewater Treatment Plant

This PWL Wastewater Treatment Plant is widely used in industries such as food, textile, paper, mining and petro-chemical to name a few. It ensures minimum pollution, is extremely user friendly and safe and also requires low maintenance costs. This plant is highly compact and is designed for high capacities. It uses various principles to operate and the manufacturing product employs our state of the art machinery and advanced technical solutions.

 

Details :

  • DAF is gravity separation process where by the separation of two phases is achieved by increasing the specific gravity difference of the two phases. This is achieved by attaching micro air bubbles, brought about by saturating water with air under pressure, and then expanding the water stream through valves to atmospheric pressure. These micro bubble nucleate onto the solid particles to be separated, thus lowering the specific gravity and allowing contaminants to rise the surface
  • Suspended solids, Grease and oil are very efficiently removed by DAF, and a combination of screening and DAF results in BOD/COD removals up to 60% depending on application. However a combination of Flocculation and flotation can result in BOD removal of around 80-90%. For wastewater containing high solid content, it is necessary to create a sufficient retention time for prewatering of the skimming.
  • The PWL series Flotation unit have been designed for capacities up to 200m3/hr. (As standard) Higher capacities are realized by combining or expanding systems. Standard construction is in carbon steel, but other material is possible. DAF systems in concrete are also possible. Saturation of air in water can be carried out by dosing the air in suction side of the Aeration pump. Dissolution takes place by Henry law , and the turbulence and energy in the pump provide excellent condition for the process.
  • Alternately, use can be made of saturation vessel, of conventional design for the air to Dissolve in the water. The recycle flow is mixed with the wastewater in the flotation unit, through a pressure pipe. Air bubbles formed adhere to the particles and give them buoyancy to float rapidly through surface These system donot use plate packs and are open tank, low unit separator, with the aeration point in the inlet as well as the sides of the tank to ensure excellent aeration along the entire tank length

PWL : To ensure high dry solid contents of the skimming, the solid loading (kg solids/m2 free unit surface) is an important design factor. For wastewater containing high solid contents, it is necessary to create sufficient retention time for predewatering of the skimmings. The PWL flotation systems have been designed for the nominal capacities with the solid contents up to 10.00 mg/l

VOC Control System

What Are VOC’S ? : Volatile Organic Compounds ( VOC ), are generated in streams where oils are present in refinery and petrochemical effluents or streams. These normally consist of BTEX (Benzenes, Toluenes, Xylenes etc.), and other organic compounds which add to the odor and are now required to be controlled whereas they were previously vented into the atmosphere.

VOC Control : All VOC generating points such as oil sumps, storage tanks for slop and feed oils, separator tanks like API’S, TPI’s, DAF systems, etc. need to be fitted with the VOC control system. This control may be either by Carbon adsorption and subsequent desorption, or by use of thermal oxidizer systems, to ensure that the vapors escaping from these units are controlled to contain the VOC’s.

Carbon Adsorption : This is the easiest and most basic form of VOC control, wherein a particular grade of Carbon is chosen based on tests on the streams and on experience. The VOC’s are then passed through the Carbon bed to adsorb them and to ensure that the vapors coming out are harmless to the atmosphere. This is carried out in Carbon canisters or in Tanks, depending on the flow and the site conditions. Basically, a Fixed Bed or a Fluidized Bed option is possible.

Thermal Oxidation : Popular for higher VOC concentrations, thermal oxidation will combust the VOC gases to achieve very high levels of purity of the vented air. Obvious advantages are non-replacement of the spent carbon bed.

PFR Pipe Flocculator

Coagulation and Flocculation by controlled Turbulence

  • The PFR pipe Flocculator is a plug flow reactor in which process such as coagulation, flocculation, demulsification, precipitation and pH control can take place under highly controlled and well defined conditions.
  • The above mentioned processes take place under turbulent flow conditions. At the chemical injection points the pipe diameter is adapted to ensure instantaneous mixing of chemicals and wastewater. Through the crosssection of a pipe the mixing intensity is virtually homogeneous. Reaction time is determined by the pipe length and flow rate and based on the exact requirements, no excess is required . In the plug flow reactor the process can be influenced at any time as opposed to tank reactors, where only condition per tank can be maintained.
  • Generally speaking a pipe flocculator is used where a coagulant, a flatulent and optionally a chemical for pH correction are dosed in sequence for the remove all of turbidity and / or COD or precipitants.
  • The use of a pipe flocculator in combination with a flotation system can give COD removals of up to 95%.

Details :

  • Lamella settlers are basically cross flow plate separators designed for removal of settleable solids.The water containing solids flows in a horizontal direction between the closely spaced plates in the plate pack. Completely laminar flow conditions are established while water flows across the plate pack from inlet to the outlet side.
  • Solids with the higher density than the carrier fluid will settle down into the sludge Compartment of the seprator, which is a sloped compartment to facilitate removal of the solid particles. The number and size of the plate is governed by the water flow rate and the settling velocity of the solid, which in turn are proportional to the diameter of the solids to be settled.
  • The distance between the plates is depending upon the concentration of the solids Sludge in the raw water. The plate distance can be varied, usually between 20 and 50mm, to allow for the different sizes of the settling particles, and to prevent clogging of the plate packs.The systems are fabricated in the mild steel and other materials are available on request.All K-Pack separators are custom built with respect to the number of plates in the pack, the length of the plate distance between the plate and the plate incline.
  • The incline of the plate is set between 45 and 60 degrees depending upon the general nature of the oil and/or the sludge.(density , velocity , concentration). The systems are fabricated in the mild steel, and other materials are available on the request. The oil separators are standard with oil and skimpie and 45 degree shaped compartment. The solids separators are optionally with a shiftless conveyor in the Sludge compartment

The activated sludge method of purifying sewage can be divided into two basic elements :

  • The efficient supply of ample oxygen to support the bacteriological processes.
  • Sufficient circulation of the tank contents to achieve intimate mixing of the activated sludge and sewage and to avoid practical disadvantages such as the deposition of sludge and slit.
  • The action of the Aerating Cone combines these two basic functions with maximum efficiency. It was also recognised that mixing could be achieved most economically by mechanical means and the Aeration Cone is a highly efficient, which, in combination with the stationary uptake tube, and efficient mixing of the contents of the tank.
  • The special designed blades of the Cone discharges the circulated liquid in a manner which achieves high uptake of oxygen as the liquid passes through the atmosphere and strikes the surface with great force. A very rapid solution of oxygen is thereby promoted, which is immediately utilised throughout the contents of the aeration tank because of the rapid circulation

Clarifier

  • Clarifier equipment is suitable for all sewage settlement applications and for the treatment of trade effluents and process liquors. It has, however, been designed with particular reference to the the need for rapid collection and withdrawal of activated sludge, which is accomplished by means of diametrically-opposed, continuous helical scrapers.
  • Clarifier Setting Tank employs a fixed bridge which is made in a range to suit tanks from 4mtr to 35mtr.in diameter, with a recommended floor slope of (1:12) or 71/2°.
  • In the standard arrangement, an inlet pipe passes under the tank floor and turns upwards at the centre to discharge the incoming liquid through a dispersion pipe into a deflector drum from which an even radial flow emerges. The settled effluent passes over a peripheral weir. Continuous helical scrapers sweep the accumulating sludge into a central well from which it is withdrawn through a sludge draw-off pipe. The scrapers are mounted on framework attached to the rotating dispersion pipe, the drive unit for which is mounted on the bridge structure.

Bridge : For tanks up to 55 ft. in diameter, the bridge is fabricated from channel sections. For tanks of greater diameter, a lattice girder bridge is provided. Steel bridges may be grit-blasted and zinc sprayed before painting if required. Aluminum alloy may be used as an alternative. Where dissimilar metals would otherwise be in contact, insulation strips prevent galvanic and electrolytic action. A walkway is provided on one side of the bridge to give access to the drive unit. Double-row tubular handrailing is supplied in all cases. For steel structures, both handrails and solid pillars are galvanised as standard without extra charge, in view of their susceptibility to corrosion, irrespective of the protection specified for the rest of the plant.
Drive : The drive unit, mounted on the bridge at the centre of the tank, comprises a fractional horsepower electric motor and reduction gearing, the output shaft being attached to the upper end of the dispersion pipe or driving shaft. This output shaft is carried in a robust housing incorporating journal and thrust bearings.
Scrapers and Sludge removal : Scraper arms are attached to the central dispersion pipe or driving shaft, and braced and stayed to prevent distortion. The cross members of each pair of scraper arms are extended as necessary toprovide mountings for a continuous helical scraper blade, fitted with a wearing edge of abrasion re-sistant synthetic rubber, which spans the radius of the tank. Sludge is conveyed by the scrapers to the central well.
Peripheral weir : The most economical type of weir plate is of steel with a machined, plain edge, adjustable for accurate setting. Vee- notched or castellated plates can also be provided, with aluminum alloy or plastic offered as alternative material in each case.
Side-wall scraper : This is available as an optional item and constitutes a framework, fitted with a renewable synthetic rubber wearing edge, mounted on the outer end of the scraper arm.
Scum-skimming device : Where provision for the removal of surface scum is required, a continuous scum-baffle is supported on brackets attached to the tank wall. A radial scum-blade which breaks the water surface is carried from the top of the deflector drum and supported from one scraper arm. A retractable, radial scum-barrier is mounted on the bridge structure. When it is desired to remove scum from the tank, this barrier is lowered to break the water surface immediately after the rotating blade has passed beneath the bridge, it forms an enclosed channel and, in this position, the mechanism is stopped. The collected scum is then withdrawn by operating a flap valve mounted in the scum-removal trough which connects with the outer sludge well.
Lubrication : Care has been taken to ensure that adequate lubrication is achieved with the minimum of attention and no part of the equipment requires lubrication more frequently than twice per year.

  • Construction of ample weight and maximum rigidity. Robust sections of frame and door and scientific ribbing for additional strength
  • Adjustable wedge blocks to ensure positive closure of the shutter under low pressure or even back pressure conditions
  • Rising or non rising spindle of mild steel or stainless steel material
  • Foundation bolts for erecting the gate frame and operating hoist. A simple or worm geared operation hoist with gun metal nut and fitted with thrust ballbearing
  • Wall thimble to enable to remove the frame and shutter without disturbing concrete.
  • Adjustale wall brackets having vertical and horizontal adjustments
  • Flush bottom closing if desired in-lieu of the bottom seating face can be provided
