Oil skimmers are used to recover free floating Oil & Grease. These are installed in Waste water treatment plants to recover oil and grease from the effluent. The action is totally mechanical and there is no chemical treatment. There are several types of Oil Skimmers, which are as follows:

Slotted Pipe oil skimmer

Slotted pipe oil skimmer is the simplest and most economical of oil skimmer. These are manually operated oil skimmer with half cut pipes which is provided for better removal efficiency of the oil. MOC of the slotted pipe oil skimmer shall be MS, SS304 or SS316 as per the effluent characteristics.

Belt type oil skimmer 

The belt type oil skimmer system is simple. An Oleophilic endless belt is used to pick up the free floating surface oil from the effluent. The lower end of the belt dips into the effluent. The Belt carries the oil on its surface to the top end of the machine where a set of scrapers remove the oil from the belt surface and deposits into a collection tray from where it is drained by means of gravity into any collection vessel. Belt Oil Skimmer can be Single belt or multiple belt depending on the capacity requirement and area available to fix the skimmer. Belt length and width also depends tank size and capacity.

Tube Type oil skimmer

This system uses an endless loop of Oleophilic tube for skimming off the free floating surface oil from industrial effluent The highly Oleophilic endless loop of plastic tube  rotates by means of drive mechanism and picks up the oil from the effluent. The loop is free floating on the liquid surface. The collection drops into a collection tray from where it is drained off by means of gravity. The machine is mounted at an elevation, usually on a mast. Length of tube, tube reach, drive details are based on the site requirement.

Funnel Type oil skimmer

Funnel Skimmers are driveless weir systems specifically for closed tanks. As such, the funnel lips are set at a certain pre decided point of app. 15-20 mm below the estimated effluent level and the film above that level is skimmed through the funnels. We can only consider the estimated oil in the inlet for calculations

Disc Type oil skimmer

Disc type oil skimmer can have both floating/fixed configurations. The MOC of the disc shall be SS304/SS316 both of which are Oleophilic. Disc skimmer works on the principle of difference in surface tension between oil and water as well as Oleophilic adhesion to the disc surface. These systems recover oil with a low percentage of water. The whole system is mounted on floats so that the machine can be floated in the spillage area. A similar system without the floats is used as a fixed type skimmer.

Drum type oil skimmer

Drum type oil skimmers are generally limited to floating configurations. Drum type oil skimmer works on the principle of Oleophilic adhesion to the drum surface.

Funnel Type Oil Skimmer are drive less weir systems specifically for closed tanks.
