    Additional Information

    • Packaging DetailsSSG (Sorghum Sudan Grass) fodder sorghum is considered an excellent and highly nutritious feed for livestock. In Maharashtra, this variety of sorghum plays a pivotal role in ensuring that dairy animals receive wholesome fodder, thereby boosting milk production. **Key Features of SSG Fodder Sorghum:** **Multi-cut:** Once sown, it yields 3 to 4 cuts (harvests) over a period of 4 to 5 months. **Yield:** It produces 45 to 46 tons of green fodder and 14 to 15 tons of dry fodder (stover) per hectare. **Nutritional Value:** It contains protein levels comparable to those found in maize, which helps increase milk production in dairy animals. **Quality:** Due to its broad leaves, succulent stems, and high sugar content, livestock consume it with great relish. **Cultivation Practices:** **1. Soil and Land Preparation:** Select medium to heavy-textured soil with excellent drainage. Plough the land deeply and incorporate 3 to 4 tons of farmyard manure (FYM). **2. Sowing Period and Seed:** The period from the second week of June to the first week of July is ideal for sowing during the Kharif (monsoon) season. **Seed Rate:** 35 to 40 kilograms of seed are required per hectare. Maintain a spacing of 25 to 30 centimeters between rows. **Seed Treatment:** Before sowing, treat the seeds by rubbing them with 250 grams of *Azotobacter* and 250 grams of PSB (Phosphorus Solubilizing Bacteria) per 10 kilograms of seed. **3. Fertilizer and Water Management:** **Fertilizer:** Apply 100 kg of Nitrogen (N), 50 kg of Phosphorus (P), and 50 kg of Potassium (K) per hectare. Apply half of the Nitrogen along with the full dose of Phosphorus and Potassium at the time of sowing; apply the remaining Nitrogen 30 to 40 days later. Watering: It is necessary to irrigate at intervals of 10 to 12 days. 4. Harvesting: The first cut should be taken 50 to 60 days after sowing. Subsequent cuts should be taken at intervals of one month. Benefits: Drought-Resistant: This variety of sorghum can survive even with limited water and under harsh conditions. Low Cost: The cultivation cost is lower compared to other fodder crops. Summer Fodder: This is an excellent crop for addressing the shortage of green fodder during the summer season.
