A bolt is a fastener which has threads attached or made into it by machining. It has an external male thread which fits into a matching pre formed female thread namely a nut. In other words a bolt is a fastener which is designed to pass through an unthreaded component to be held together by a nut. But a tower bolt is a bit different. A tower bolt is a rod shaped bolt for locking doors and its allies, which are attached to one side of the door which is at the edge and which slides into a casing which is cylindrical in shape and is fitted on the frame of the opening.
