Contact SupplierThe word “sesame” is derived from the Greek word sesamon and from the latin word sesmum, which literally translates to “oil, liquid fat”. It also has derivation from the Arabic word “semsem”.
Details :
The binomial name of sesame is sesanium indicum. It is a flowering plant which grows in pods and buds and is cultivated the world over, especially in naturalised tropical regions for its edible seeds. India and China are considered to be the largest harvesters of sesame seeds.
Sesame seed is regarded as the oldest oilseed crop known to man. It has one of the highest oil contents of any seed, with a rich nutty flavour. It has the ability to grow in areas that do not support the growth of other crops. It does not require elaborate farming support to survive as the seeds can grow in droughts with proper care.
