Calamus is a plant. The root (rhizome) is used to make medicine.
Despite safety concerns, calamus is used for gastrointestinal (GI) problems including ulcers, inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis), intestinal gas (flatulence), upset stomach and loss of appetite (anorexia). Calamus is also used as a calming medicine (sedative), to induce sweating, and to treat rheumatoid arthritisand stroke.
Some people chew calamus to remove the smell of tobacco, Some people apply calamus directly to the skin to treat certain skin diseases.
In foods, calamus is used as a spice.
Bay is an herb. The Greeks made it famous by crowning their heroes with wreathes made out of bay leaves. In addition to decorative use, the leaves and oil are used to make medicine.

Ashwagandha is an evergreen shrub that grows up to the height of 0.5 m to 1.5 m. It is covered by the leaves all round the year. The flowers are hermaphrodite (they have both the male and the female organs) and are greenish yellow in colour. Its fruit and berries are orange -red in colour. Its roots are whitish brown in colour. Aswagandha is a small woody shrub and flowers all the year round.
Ashwagandha is a very useful herb. All the parts of the plant are used in the herbal medicines. According to the Ayurveda studies Ashwandha increases health and longevity. It is also sometimes used to treat the memory loss. In cases of cancer Ashwagangha acts as the adjuvant.
Other uses : Ashwagandha is used as the substitute of the soaps. The leaves are an insect repellent. Aswaganda mixed with the almond oil and rose water is used as the facial toner. Ashwagandha is taken with the milk, with sugar or honey as it promotes deep sleep.
Zedoary is a plant. The underground stem (rhizome) is used to make medicine.
Traditional methods for preparing zedoary involve washing it with lots of water to remove most of the protein and water-soluble nutrients. The rinsing is also supposed to remove a poison that is yet to be identified.
Zedoary is sometimes applied directly to the skin to keep mosquitoes away.
