The instruments find use in industries as well as in Colleges and Universities. The circular scales are finely marked on a circle both in angular measure and in International Sugar Scale. The smallest division on angular scale is 1 . The Sugar Scale is calibrated between 30 to 0 (for Laboratory substances) and 0 to +130 ISS. The Scale is properly illuminated to facilitate reading.

Sugar ( Percentage ) : 0 to 95% in step of 1 Division Accuracy : 0.5 %  
It is a standard Instrument for measuring refractive index and dispersion of liquids and solids and also for derermining the percentage contents of sugar in water solutions. 
 
The body of the instrument is fixed having a leaning of 60° , correct refractive index and sugar percentage can be read directly in the field. It consists of a abbe double prism compensator , telescope mirror limb , graduated sector , reading magnifier and a radial arm which carries a vernier. Abbe’s Double prisms leaves a narrow space ( about 0.1 mm ) between the adjointing faces of prism and compensator consists of the  prisms which serves for rendering the line of achromatic separation . 

 

 

A thermometer is fitted on the double prism.
