Accurate determination of plastic film thickness is essential to ensure conformity with design specifications and to evaluate various physical properties. Film thickness is commonly measured in laboratories using a bench thickness gauge.
The test specimen is placed on a flat anvil, and a circular indenter applies a specified pressure from the top. The contacting surfaces of the anvil and indenter are flat, finely ground, and parallel to ensure precise measurement.

FEATURES & OPERATION The bench thickness gauge consists of a digital micrometer mounted on a rigid metallic frame. The micrometer is fitted with a flat circular indenter that applies uniform pressure on the film sample through a dead-weight mechanism. The specimen is placed on a flat circular anvil aligned concentrically with the indenter. The indenter moves vertically along the same axis and can be raised or lowered smoothly using a lifting lever to obtain accurate and repeatable thickness readings.
