Mucuna prurita is a herbaceous twining annula found almost all over India and in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The plant attains a height of 12-15 ft. Leaves trifoliolate; leaflets broadly ovate, elliptic or rhomboid ovate, unequal at base; flowers in axillary, pendulous racemes, purple; pods curved, 5-10 cm x 1.5-1.8 cm, longitudinally ribbed, turgid, densely clothed with persistent pale brown or grey, irritant bristles; seeds black, 4-6 in a pod. ovoid (c. 12 mm. long), with funicular hilum. The plant is found in bushes and hedges, damp places, vavines and scrub jungles throughout the plains of India.

Jatropha curcas a large shrub, 3 - 4 m high, native of tropica America, occuring almost throughout India and in Andaman Islands. Leaves alternate, 10 - 15 cm X 7.5 - 12.5cm broadly ovate, cordate, acute, usually palmately 3 or 5 lobed, glabrous; flowers in loose panicles of cymes, yellowish green, c 7 mm. across; fruits c. 2.5 cm. long, ovoid, black, breaking in to three 2 valved cocci; seeds ovoid-oblong, dull brownish black.  The plant is reported to have been introduced into Asia and Africa by the Portuguese as an oil-yielding plant.  It is cultivated to a certain extent as an oilseed crop in Cape Verde Islands; a yield of 350-1000 lb of seeds per acre has been reported.

Carica papaya is a herbaceous tree growing to a height of 10-25 ft., bearing a crown of large, deeply lobed leaves, giving a palm-like appearance.  It is normally dioecious but occasionally monoecious; plants bearing hermaphrodite flowers have also been recorded.  The fruits are borne near the top of the trunk, closely packed at the bases of the leaves and are fleshy, waxy, slighltly fragrant, having 5petals. The leaves emerge directly from the upper part of the stem in a spiral on nearly horizontal petioles, 1-3 1/2ft. long, hollow, succulent green or more or less dark purple. Both the stems and leaves contain copious white milky latex. They vary greatly in number, size and shape, depending on the variety, soil, season, climate and cultural practices.

They may be spherical or cylindrical in shape and weigh up to 20lb. C. papaya is considered to be a native of tropical Central America.  It is at present grown practically all over the tropical and sub-tropical countries of the world, particularly in India, Ceylon, Hawaii, Philippines, S. Africa and Australia.  In India, it has been successfully cultivated in Madras, Bombay, Bengal, Bihar, and U.P., but nowhere on a plantation scale. It have a compound Papin which is good for the treatment of arthirits.

Cocos nucifera a tall and stately palm growing to a height of 50-60ft. or maore when fully mature, bearing a crown of large, pinnate leaves.  The trunk is stout (1-1½ft. diam.), straight or gently curved, rising from a swoolen base surrounded by mass or roots; rarely branched, it is marked by ringlike leaf scars which are not prominent.  The leaves are 6-18 ft. long, pinnatisect; leaflets, 2-3ft. long, narrow and tapering.  In the axil of each leaf is a spathe enclosing a apadix, 4-6ft. long, stout, straw or orange coloured, and simply branched. 

The palm is monoecious.  The female flowers are relatively few, 1 in. long and globose, borne at the base of the panicle.  The male flowers are numerous, small and sweet-scented, borne towars the top of the panicle.  The fruit is ovoid, three-angled, 6-12 in. long, containing a single seed. 

Azadirachta indica, commonly known as neem, is a native to the Indian sub-continent, and is extensively used in Ayurveda and homeopathic systems of treatment, for its medicinal properties. The fast-growing and long-lasting tree grows up to a height of about 15 m, with a straight bole and spreading round crown. The bark is dark-brown and moderately thick, with wide longitudinal fissures. The pinnate leaves measure about 20-40 cm in length and the dark green leaflets are approximately 3-8 cm long. The green Azadirachta indica flowers bear an resembling to garlic, and turn yellow, when they ripen. The single or double seeded fruits are elongate-oval, smooth, and measure 1.42.8 cm by 1.01.5 cm. Azadirachta indica seeds are covered with a brown colored seed coat, and are elongated in shape. For successful germination, the seed cover is removed, and the seeds are sown in moist sand or agar at a temperature of 25 or 26C. Azadirachta indica is useful for a wide variety of medicinal uses for its antibacterial, therapauptinc and healing properties. Every part of the tree, including its, bark, leaves, roots and seeds are used in the treatment of different diseases.

Withania somnifera an erect, evergreen tomentose shrub, 24-36 inch. high, found throughout the drier parts of India in waste places and on bunds; also cultivated to a limited extent for medicinal roots. The extract is derived form the roots of Withania somnifera belonging to family Solanaceae. It is commonly known as Ashwagandha which indicates the equine (of horses) odor of the plant. Its main use, as described in Ayurvedic literature, is as a “rasayana” or rejuvenating drug and hence also traditionally known as Avarada which suggests the application of this plant for enhancing longevity. Withania somnifera is one of the best known and most researched Ayurvedic herbs and holds a place in the Ayurvedic traditions similar to Ginseng in Chinese therapies.

Again another of the members of the evergreen trees found in the high elevations of up to 4, 000 10, 000 feet in India, the trees can grow to a maximum of 45 feet in height. It falls in the red list of the IUCN and thus comes under the endangered species. Thus it is recommended that the seeds are sown in moist soil conditions with regular watering.
