It is used to remove large particles of dirt and debris. Duplex strainer is a filter built into a fuel, oil or water piping system. The duplex strainer system usually consists of two separate strainer baskets housed. The system also contains a valve handle placed between the two baskets to divert the flow of liquid to one strainer while the other is being cleaned. On some strainers, the valve will work automatically and the strainer will perform a self-cleaning operation.

Tee Type Strainer removes sediment and debris from fluids when installed into the system. Once sediment and debris is collected in the screen, Fluid flow is interrupted while the screen is removed from cleaning.

Temporary Strainer ApplicationThis is a design that offers inexpensive Protection for expensive Meters, Valves, Pumps, & other mechanical equipment from scale weld slag, dirt and other foreign matter during start up. Basket, Conical & Plate Type Strainers are temporary and after initial start up they should be removed from the pipeline.
Temporary Strainer Installation MethodLocate the strainer between the pipe flanges as you install it into the pipeline. That mesh lining, if provided should be facing the flow. The strainer is designed to be self centering between the pipe flanges and bolting. Using standard piping practices, ensure that required gasket & Bolting is installed and bolt torque values are achieved.

Fabricated Basket Strainers allow top removal of the screen. The basket, with a lifting handle enables the easy removal of all particulate captured and retained by the screen. These are used for applications where larger amounts of solid particulate are expected, and where clean-out is frequent. Most models have a standard or optional “Quick Release Cover” to allow fast and easy screen removal without the use of tools. For easily flushable solids, a modified cone-bottom basket can be fitted, with automatic or manual blow-down through the drain port. Without interrupting the process flow, this will allow clean-out without removal of the screen.
Basket Type Strainer DesignThe perforated thermoplastic baskets type strainer designs are heavy-duty welded construction designed for durability as well as ease of basket removal and cleaning. To reduce the pressure drop across a clean basket, and to increase time between cleanings; they have a large ratio of open basket area to pipe size. A variety of hole diameters are available. A spare basket on hand at all times is recommended.
