Mung beans are oval-shaped green beans also known as green gram. The scientific name of mung beans is Vigna radiate. Mung beans are pulse, edible beans from the legume plant family. These Mung beans are also known as green gram, maash, moong, monggo, or munggo. Mung beans are primarily grown in Asia, Africa, and South America people frequently confuse mung beans with lentils. However, they are not the same. Lentils are legumes with a lens shape, which is broader in the center and narrower at each end. Beans are often bigger than lentils. Since mung beans are bigger, they do not come under the lentil group.
Mung beans are high in fiber, including insoluble fiber, as they include pectin, a soluble fiber. As per research, pectin can help keep your intestines healthy and speed up the pace at which food is processed and moved through your stomach. In addition, it improves overall digestive function. Mung beans are high in fiber and protein, which are essential for healthy weight loss. One cup of cooked mung beans contains 80% of the RDI for folate (202 grams). Uead also known as urad, Masha, Vigna mungo, and a variety of other names, black gram is a plant highly valued in its entirety — from its roots to its seed pods. These small cylindrical beans are white on the inside, with a black seed coat. The fuzzy seed pods contain between 4-10 lentils each and grow on a bush that ranges in size from 1-3 ft. tall. Very few other members of the legume family can compete with the number of beneficial vitamins and minerals found in black gram. When these lentils are split and have the skin removed they are a creamy white color inside.
