Botanical Name of Pumpkin:-Cucurbita pepo

Pumpkin is a squash plant that belongs from Cucurbitaceae family. Other plants are also belongs from this family like cucumber, bottle gourd. Firstly, it was discovered in Mexico and it is native of North America. The weight of pumpkin lies between 2 to 8 kg and it is used on large scale. Now, it is widely spread all around the world. Pumpkin contains various components including alpha, beta carotene, provitamin and beta crytoxanthin. Due to existence of Carotenoid pigment, the color of pumpkin is derived orange. It is the richest source of Vitamin A, protein and health benefiting minerals such as potassium, copper, phosphorus and copper. The seeds and oil of pumpkin is used to make medicines for diabetic patients.
