Zeaxanthin Extract Powder and oil is obtained from Flower of Marigold (Tageteserecta). It is a commonly found carotenoid alcohol and a group of xanthophyll (one or two major group of carotenoids) primarily synthesized by plants and some micro- organisms. Zeaxanthin comes fromgreek word- zea means grain corn and xanthos means yellow, referring yellow colour of zeaxanthin. The main use of zeaxanthin is as pigmentation in plants and fruits. Also, zeaxanthin is a dominant component for eyes, found in retina and in macula (responsible for visual acuity and color vision) giving the macula a yellowish color also. Studies suggests that zeaxanthin and meso-zeaxanthin in the macula block blue light from reaching the underlying structures in the retina, thereby reducing the risk of light-induced oxidative damage that could lead to macular degeneration (AMD). Zeaxanthin cannot be produced by human body thus, can only be obtained by dietary sources and supplementations
