About Kolhapur
The city of Kolhapur is situated at 387km distance from Mumbai. The legends are that the city derived its name from ‘Kolhasur’, a demon who was killed by the Goddess Laxmi after years of cruelly oppressing the defenseless people. Delimited by the mighty mountain ranges of Sahyadri near the banks of holy Panganga River, and playing a host to bountiful of royal palaces, monumental forts, ancient temples, Kolhapur exhibits a perfect mix of history and magnificence. Marathi is the local lingo of the state, but, English and Hindi are also massively spoken. Today, the city has become a fore-runner in manufacturing engineering products, textiles and refined sugar.

The Kolhapuri Chappals, jewelry and garments speak volumes about the intricate Kolhapuri craftsmanship. The Kolhapuri Misai Pav, Pithala Bhakri, Mutton Dry and many other non-vegetarian cuisines forms the specialty of the city.
