 Rapid Moisture Meter is a portable apparatus designed for quick determination of moisture content in soil, sand, cement, coal and other powder / granular materials in a laboratory or site environment. The method is based on the chemical reaction of free water in the sample with calcium carbide (or other absorbent material) inside a sealed vessel. As the reaction occurs, acetylene (or gas) is generated, increasing internal pressure, which is measured via a calibrated gauge and converted into % moisture content.
The unit typically is supplied as a complete test kit: a pressure vessel with sealing clamp, rubber sealing gasket, pressure gauge, a small counter-poised balance for weighing the sample, steel mixing balls, scoop for reagent, cleaning brush, and reagent bottle — all packed in a polished wooden carrying case for portability.
