It typically grows up to 2–3 meters in height and has broad, lance-shaped aromatic leaves. The plant prefers tropical to subtropical climates and thrives in rich, well-drained loamy soil with partial to full sunlight exposure. It is propagated through rhizome division and requires consistent moisture during the growing season. The rhizomes are reddish-brown on the outside and pale inside, possessing a pungent, spicy aroma. Harvesting is done 10–12 months after planting. The rhizomes are widely used in Southeast Asian cuisine, traditional medicine, and herbal preparations for their digestive, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.
